2020 WDW Marathon Weekend: What To Pack
Another year, another decade of runDisney! 2020 brings the promise of new experiences, challenges, and ways to prove to yourself that anything is possible. What better way to ring in the new year than runDisney’s Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. Speaking from personal experience, it is the race of a lifetime. I am so excited for everyone who has been preparing and training for months. It is YOUR time.
In the spirit of preparedness, double check your packing list against mine: the Will Run for Disney official WDW Marathon Weekend Packing list.
Will Run for Disney’s
2020 WDW Marathon Weekend
Race Packing List:
Photo ID (you need this to board your plane anyway)
Printed out, signed race waiver for an easier Expo experience
Race outfit/s: performance running bottoms, moisture wicking performance top, bra, underwear, non-cotton socks
Compression socks or sleeves (optional)
Race costume pieces (make sure they are airport/Disney costume compliant before you head on a plane! Yikes!)
Race running shoes (and have at least one separate pair just for walking around the parks!)
Disposable poncho, trash bag or old heat sheet for warmth pre-race! OR
Old sweatshirt or sweatpants to wear pre-race; all clothing cast aside along the course will be donated
If it’s cold, hat and gloves were a lifesaver for me for the 2018 race!
If you are bringing a full gear bag to the race: use the clear, plastic drawstring runDisney bag given to you at the Expo. Make sure it is tagged with your name and contact information, and feel free to toss in a dry outfit, shoes, snacks, etc. They will store your bag at the start/finish line gear tent and you will collect your bag post-race.
Baseball hat or visor
Hair ties/extra hair ties for new friends made in your corral!
Other hair accessories: Bobby pins, headband, etc.
Runner’s fanny pack or belt
Extra safety pins (just in case) to secure your bib
Headphones (but try not to miss the on-course entertainment!)
Sports watch/Garmin/Fitbit and CHARGER! (Plug in the night before to avoid a dead battery!)
MagicBand or throw into your gear bag
Phone Charger (if you can wrap it up and take it with you, I highly recommend it!)
Body Glide (apply liberally before showing up pre-race)
Sunscreen (also apply liberally before showing up pre-race)
Favorite/go-to breakfast nutrition (favorite granola bar, bagel, peanut butter?)
Favorite race nutrition in a portable, zip-loc bag(candies, blocks or chews, goo) Check the course maps from the participant event guide on the runDisney website for “food” locations: they will distribute sports beans, bananas, and GUs. Some spectators will even hand out candy!
Favorite post-race nutrition or treat (scope out the nearest location that sells chocolate milk ahead of time!)
Water/water bottle (personal preference but not necessary; there will be water stops with water and Powerade along the courses). Water packs allowed.
Mini first-aid kit: band-aids, ibuprofen, tylenol, aleve, disinfectant, ice packs, tampons, maxi pads, aloe vera, icy hot
Sandals for post-race pool and hot tub time!
