runDisney news 7/9/2017 – 7/15/2017

Hey everyone!

If you’re like me, you’re still reeling from this weekend’s D23 Expo news. Hopefully now that the Expo is over, Disney will release more runDisney news! In case you missed it, here’s the latest on runDisney news for the week of 7/9/17 through 7/15/17:

Here’s the week of July 9 – July 15, 2017:

Virtual Running Shorts – nothing new to report. July edition is underway! Virtual running shorts runners are out earning their purple Pluto food dish medals through July 31.

Participation still available for the July and August races
June 1 – August 31, 2017

Well, now we know why this year’s Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend is Pixar-themed. If you didn’t follow this weekend’s D23 news, Disneyland’ Paradise Pier will be transforming into Pixar Pier. This undoubtedly means the race weekend will celebrate the refurbishment and include sneak previews and special news. I’d be curious to hear what local Disneyland Passholders think about this change.

As a reminder, in February runDisney announced the Pixar theme for the weekend: “Up!” for the Kid’s Races, Mr. and Mrs. Incredible from “The Incredibles” for the 5K, Mike and Sulley and the gang from “Monsters University” for the 10K, “Toy Story” for the half marathon and the big change from the “Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare” has become a generic themed Disneyland Double Dare featuring this year’s celebration of Pixar theme.

Everyone is anxiously awaiting the medal designs, which should be out any day now! A reminder that this race, along with other Disneyland races, are now listed as starting at 5:00AM PT instead of 5:30AM PT. Race medal designs, TBD.

For corral placement, the proof of time deadline was May 30.

This week, runDisney ran sponsored paid ads on social media indicating there were entries still available for the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend.

Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, Marathon, and Kids Races still available
January 3 – 7, 2018

Still no word on the Disneyland Star Wars Half Marathon – The Light Side. runDisney website still currently says “UPDATE: Registration for the 2018 Star Wars Half Marathon at Disneyland®Resort has been temporarily postponed and will open at a later date. Updated information regarding early and general registration dates to come.”

runDisney seems to be choosing to ignore the lack of updates by posting silly photos on their social media unrelated to upcoming races, and those commenting on the posts continue to “troll” runDisney asking about any Light Side information. It has been quite amusing, but I’m sure runDisney isn’t pleased.

Registration TBD

Disneyland’s Tinkerbell Half Marathon Weekend page has not yet been refreshed for 2018. Registration for Annual Passholders/DVC members was originally scheduled to open Thursday, June 22, and General Registration June 27, but now the runDisney website reads: “Stay tuned for registration and event information for the 2018 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend.” Could Tink weekend be affected by traffic issues/construction like the Light Side half? Stay tuned!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for next week’s recap on Monday. As always, #willrunfordisney !

*Please note: if you really want to participate in a race and it is no longer available on runDisney, check your local travel agent as runDisney provides entries to them in an effort to boost their businesses. Bibs will have to come with a ticket and lodging package.
