‘Tis the Season for the “Turkey Trot”!

As excited as I am about the upcoming Christmas season, we can’t forget about Thanksgiving! November is a time of gratitude, reflection, and celebration with no presents and “less pressure!” (Someday when I’m in charge of the Thanksgiving feast I’m sure I’ll laugh at that last statement.)

It’s also the perfect time to consider signing up for a Turkey Trot, or if the race is sold out, an early December race! If you missed out, Runner’s World curated a state by state guide to Turkey Trots across America.

Find the nearest Turkey Trot in your state here

Facts about Turkey Trots (from Active.com):

1. According to Active.com the average American will consume 3,000 calories during their Thanksgiving meal (That’s the equivalent of running approximately 30 miles. So a 5K is only a dent in the damage!)

2. The typical turkey trot distance is anywhere from a 5K (3.1 miles) to 8 miles.

3. The oldest turkey trot race is the Buffalo Turkey Trot, which first took place in 1896! It’s even considered the oldest road race, taking place one year before the first Boston Marathon!

Even if you can’t make it out to an organized turkey trot, anyone can go out and get some fresh air before or after the big family meal- either go out on your own for a quick run in the morning or encourage your family to get outside with you for a walk. And then enjoy that big meal; you deserve it!

No Thanksgiving race or meal is complete without someone showing up in one of these:

In the spirit of gratitude and giving thanks: if you are reading this post, thank you from the bottom of my heart. For a few years, this blog of mine was a pipe dream. I wasn’t sure if anyone would even be interested, but I’m proud to say Will Run for Disney has been out in the public for over a year. And I think people are actually reading it! So if you are one of those people, THANK YOU! I can’t wait to share more adventures and Disney updates with you in the future.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Warm wishes,
Gina / Will Run for Disney
